These are some stale food I found laying around my house, I put the rest of the popcorn in a glass bowl and placed it on a wood cutting board to photograph it. For the cookie I took them and placed it on a piece of linen to give the background some texture.
Sally Mann Video Response
In class, we watch a documentary video about photographer Sally Mann, before watching the video, I had seen and learnt a little about her photographs and style, and I loved her approach and vision, but I didn’t know much about her. In the documentary, she talks about the backlash she gotten from the photos she took of her kids, and how people saw it as “child porn”, but hearing her defend it and seeing her idea and where she was coming from, I understood it a lot more. I also found it intriguing that she used a 8×10 view camera to photograph her subjects, to me it seemed like a lot of work and expensive? But the images were so worth the time and effort once she develop it. It kind of made me really want to get one, because I love how crisp the photographs were! Sally Mann, is a really amazing photographer and although her subjects may be odd (like the death series), I still find her work inspiring in a way.
Sketch 5
For this project, we were ask to play with light. I used a plastic food drainer to create the patterns, while using the flash light on my iphone. We decided to take the photos in my bathroom since it is darker in there. It was pretty hard figuring out the right settings on my camera, since the shutter speed was really slow in the beginning, but once we figured that out it was really fun trying to find the best angle and position to photograph her. I decided to make it black and white to emphasis the light more so the colors won’t be to distracting. Overall, it was a really fun project to photograph!
Elfin Forest
Elfin Forest was a fun photography experience, I was able to take my time and focus on certain parts of the environment and photograph it. I tried getting low or high at certain angles to see if I could capture something different, I love the textures I was able to capture, next time I wish to play with the light more and see what I can get out of it.
Sketch 4
For this Sketch project, we were asked to document pattern, texture, line and light. Thus, I chose to photograph a pile of rocks that were in my back yard, since it was laid out nicely I thought if I were able to zoom in on the rocks we could see the pattern of the rocks. For texture, I focused in on the ropes that were tied to the hammock, I wanted to capture the rustiness of the hook as well as the rope texture it self. As for Line, I decided to photograph the wooden ladder that lead up to a tree house, I liked the symmetrical look of it. Lastly, I decided to take a picture of the shadow of a rack that was sitting outside in the sun, I thought it was interesting how the light was able to produce the lines from the rack, and producing a shape onto the wall.
Sketch 3
For this assignment, I decided to photograph Delilah. She is someone I babysit once in a while, she is probably one of the smartest little girls I know, too smart sometimes! I wanted to photograph her because she is always such a happy child, seeing her makes me really happy! I photographed her in the back yard of my house since there were more sunlight, and she loves being back there playing in the grass with the dogs. It was a little hard since she is a little camera shy at times and I needed help loosening her up, but overall, it was a fun project to shoot!
